Jeep sold two completely different fuel tanks in the YJ Wrangler during these years: a 15-gallon metal tank with a round sending unit hole, and a 20-gallon plastic tank with a rectangular one. This MTS tank replaces the 15-gallon metal version only — pull your old tank and check the sending unit hole shape before ordering, since the two aren't interchangeable without swapping the skid plate, straps, and fuel lines too. Get the right one and it's a straight bolt-in: new lock ring and gasket included, no extra parts to source.
Steel OEM tanks corrode from the inside out as ethanol-blended fuel picks up moisture over the years, and once rust perforates the metal there's no patching it — a full replacement is the only real fix. This tank is molded in high-density cross-linked polyethylene specifically because it doesn't rust, pit, or corrode the way steel does, so once it's installed correctly it's not something you'll be revisiting.
