Jeep switched the CJ3B's sending unit to a 6-screw pattern starting at serial #39838, and this driver's-side tank matches that later spec. If your Jeep is below that serial number, you want the 5-screw version instead (SKU 0040ES). Passenger's side available separately as SKU 0040LS-RH.
Ethanol-blended modern fuel is harder on decades-old steel tanks than the gasoline they were designed around, accelerating the corrosion that eventually perforates the metal. Molded in cross-linked polyethylene, this replacement doesn't have that failure mode at all — it just needs to be the correct fitment, which is where the details below matter.
