1977 CJs used a short fill and vent neck, distinct from both the earlier and later years — this hose is built specifically for that one model year's metal tank, though it also works (with possible trimming) on the 1972-1977 plastic tanks. Replaces Jeep part 5354760.
Rubber fuel hose hardens and cracks with age, and ethanol-blended fuel accelerates that breakdown compared to the gasoline these vehicles were originally designed around — a cracked filler or vent hose is a slow leak and a fuel smell waiting to happen. Getting the length and diameter right here is what makes for a tight, lasting seal instead of another hose clamped over a hardened, brittle stub.
