I got this stock size gas tank for my 2014 yz125 and it holds 32oz less than the stock tank and stock plastic doz not line up on it very good, I'm taking it back off of my bike, it's junk.

  2. Stock volume 1991 YZ125 tank 1 Star Review

The quality of the tank was not as good as one would hope. The bottom of the tank was bubbled and there was a stressed area that almost looked like a crack (it didn't leak, but I would suspect that it may in the future = weak point).
Also there are some areas on the tank with sharp edges where you are likely to wear out your pants. They did cut down the sharp edges in the most obvious places, but fell short in finishing the job completely.
In spite of all this, I attempted to mount the tank on the bike, but found it impossible to complete the install as, at two locations, the threaded brass inserts were not on center with the dimples in the tank. As a result, the radiator shrouds could not be bolted to the tank. (It was so far off center, I couldn't get a single thread to start. I couldn't even hold the bolt at an angle and cross thread it - just couldn't get the threads to engage, no matter what I tried.
In addition, the dimples in the tank are too small to allow any wiggle room for the shroud to be manipulated into lining up the hole with the off center brass insert.
I even went as far as to modified my shroud, by hogging out the hole on one, but this did not alleviate the issue, because even though I got the hole to line up with the off center brass insert, the shroud didn't have enough room to allow for a bolt/washer to fit in it without rubbing on the side of it's dimple, thus the bolt would not go straight down = again no engagement of threads.
Basically, the tank fabrication tolerances are very poor, so I could not install the radiator shrouds, thus this tank is a pointless purchase.
Finally (on a side note), I also wonder why Clarke would go so far as to make a tank that is OEM volume, but requires the use of their aftermarket cap (the OEM cap will not thread on this tank). I have to ask, "Doesn't it seem logical, that if you're making a tank that is an OEM replacement (volume), shouldn't that tank also accept the OEM cap, too?"
In any case, I am in process of trying to return the defective tank and get my payment back (in full), since the product was completely impossible to use. Since I am just starting this return, the verdict is out, at this point, as whether or not they have good customer service OR not.
I may increase the star rating, if the customer service turns out to be good.
Final note: I tried to save some money by purchasing the Clarke tank, as it is the only one with the same volume as the OEM tank. (I don't want or need a high volume tank). In the end, since I have, (so far) tried to install it, then had to remove it, then take pictures of the issues with it, then pursue response from the company I purchased it through, etc... and I am still not done returning it.... It occurs to me that my time is valuable and that I should've just paid more and bought the OEM tank directly from Yamaha. It would've cost me more, up front, but in the end it would've saved me a lot of time and effort.

  3. Great tank 4 Star Review

I think this tank is great. Well made and yellow color is excellent. It would have gotten 5 stars but I have to completely remove tank padding from my late model yz 125 in order to make room and fit it. Otherwise a quality product. James
